Comparison with other wikis softwares

This article compares the docJGenerator features with other wikis softwares.

Features overview

The main features of docJGenerator are:
  • the result is a Web site which needs no dependencies to work correctly (such as a Database, a Web server, etc...)
  • editing articles for docJGenerator must currently be performed through the source of the articles. Web-based edition is not possible for the moment
  • it accepts an XML-based syntax and the Mediawiki markup or Markdown markup
  • it can also generate the content as a PDF document, DOCX document, or Epub document
  • it does not handle talk pages
  • it does not handle articles history
  • it has the concept of roots (packages) allowing to configure the result with the same articles definition[1]
It can be useful for example if you want to publish several different documentations using the same source. For example if a part of your documentation deals with OpenSource elements which you want ot publish on the Web, but other deals with closed elements which you only want to publish internally
